Training Plans/Coaching

After taking a year off with lots of travelling, not much training and only a small amount of riding, I'm back into training again this year. Since New Years I've dropped 6kg and fitness has picked up a great deal. On Saturday for my last training ride before the Rocky Trail 100 mile went and did an Oaks, Ingar, Andersons & Oaks ride, finished with a ride time of 05:54:34 (profile at the bottom of post).

Currently I commute to work twice a week, 50km each way mainly along the M5. Saturday has typically been a mtb ride between 50-100km and Sunday I've been doing Road Crits. Have done 3 crits so far and love them, have learnt not to try and race B grade the day after a 100km mtb ride, legs felt good at the start but that day quickly hurt. This has been great for building up a solid base, but starting to feel I need a more structured training program.

My goal for the year is too finish a 100km event in under 5 hours, complete 350km at a 24hr race (hopefully Aus Champs at Easter), and find more speed for club XC races.

I'm looking for coaching/training plans, has anyone tried FTP Training? Or have other recommendations

Cheers,
Jay

Two of my friends are using Fenners training systems with very good results.

Sounds like you're on a great comeback mate... and most importantly you have set your goals for the year.

I haven't used FTP, but have heard & read good things about it.
I think Chris (Critty) may have used it for the 2009 Australian Solo 24hr Nationals. He or Dylan will be able to tell you.

All the best mate, look forward to hearing about your results.
Cool

Sub 6hrs for Oaks, Ingar, Andos is a very good time indeed. I'd save your money with a time like that - Just keep doing what you're doing. I think you're doing just fine, who needs a training program Eye-wink

Will look into FTP.

I'm very happy with the sub 6hr time. I could keep doing what I've been doing the last two months, which I have tried to do in the past but have found it hard to keep it going for more then 3/4 months before getting worn out.

I find it the hardest when winter rolls around.
