-980m

This is a great out and back taking in the best parts of Great Northern Road.

Park on the South side of the river (by the kiosk) and take the ferry across.

Turn left and 500m or so you'll see the gated entrance to Devines Hill on the right. Cross the road and ride up there. This is a nice smooth almost gravel type of surfaced road and although a big slog (around 180m vertical) is easy if taken at your own pace.

Top of the hill turn right and continue to climb slightly. You'll pass the Finches Line on the right, but carry straight on to ride some great technical challenges for around 10km until you come to the firetrail junction with the Western Commission Track. Some choose to turn right here and head back to the ferry, but that is not what this ride is about.

Turn left and take it easy down the steep firetrail to Ten Mile Hollow - watch out for a couple of sharp corners and waterbars.

At Ten Mile Hollow following the road round to the left until you reach Clares Bridge:

Clare's Bridge Nate

Then turn around and ride back the way you came to the top of Devines Hill. Enjoy the technical challenge in the other direction.

From here you could cut the ride short and walk your bike back down Devines hill, but don't! Ride with great care down the awesome technical descent of Shepherds Gully before coming out on the road. Turn left at the bottom here and it's an easy 9km or so road ride back to the ferry.
