Is this ride possible???

Guys I'm wanting to do a ride linking up a number of tracks.

I'm trying to get from Elanora to Nth Turramurra. What's the best way to go whilst staying off the road as much as possible?

I've mapped this out, but not sure if this is the best way. Ultimately, I'd love to avoid St Ives chase and try and link up Ryland and Spinx trails. But by the look of it it isn't possible, at least not on the Spinx side. I'd also consider adding in the "Single track" along Mona Vale road if it's worth doing. I did a rough measurment and it's like 32kms.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of. Eye-wink

Here's a pic of the trail I was thinking of taking (was meant to put it into the original post.. lol)

I just found a trail from St Ives chase to Nth Turramurra, so I wo'nt be taking Killeaton rd - Burns rd any more.

I'm actually thining of doing it tomorrow after work. I've got to head over to my mum's place for a family BBQ. I'll be getting back at around midday, and I've got to be at mum's by 3pm. I reckon I could do that in 3 hrs fairly confortably.

If we were to do it at night for shits n giggles I reckon we'd have to take a car to my mum's and we drive back, or we'll be riding all night. hahahah

P.S.

I've put a new pic up of the entire route. Eye-wink

I don't think you can get across between the showground and the Wild Flower Gardens. Last I heard there was a small hole in the fence but you needed someone to help you get the bike up and over the fence. also the hills from the flower garden back up to warrimoo Rd and then the track from warrimoo back up to Bobbin Head are killers.

Have fun

Haha, Cheers!

Nah, I didn't end up going. I got held up at the job I was at and I can't be late or I'm a dead man! haha

So I might try one day when I've got some time up my sleeve.

So that fence you speak of, is that the red funny shaped thing west of the show ground?

Even if I can follw the fence to Mona rd, then duck back in and follow the fence back on the other side to the maintainance trail. Then continue on my way. I'll have to do some investigating. Mind you, even if it is a dead end, it'll be a good ride none the less. hahah

Hi Muvro

Yeah its possible, but I suggest you avoid "North to Sandy" in the north to south direction - that's a huge hill and wouldn't be much fun walking up it! Much more fun to ride down in the south to north direction. As an alternative you can ride from Terrey Hills Larool Trail, down beside Mona Vale Rd to the start of Ryland, then the Mona Vale Rd sniggle to St ives showground. Actually Garden Gully would be better in that direction - Mona Vale sniggle is more fun travelling west to east. (These two tracks are very wet/muddy after rain but should be ok at the moment.)
The fence is a hassle but not a ride stopper. And yes it's easier if there is someone else to help.
The hills to Phillip Rd are fun too! Luckily they're concrete/sealed in the steepest parts so can be ridden relatively easily. (How are your lungs?!?)
From Phillip Rd you could then add in Warrimoo plus Sphinx - I haven't ridden this but I believe there is a walking track joining the two down by the water. Might have to hike a bike for a short bit here.

I've been looking for a way to join Warrimoo/Sphinx to Bibbenluke at Terrey Hills as this would make a great loop. However what doesn't look too far or hard on Google Earth is very hard with a bike. There's also the problem of how to cross the creek...
Warrimoo to Ryland would be good too but the cliff looks too steep and would be too hard to carry a bike through.

I could be interested in meeting up for this ride - let us know if you're heading out!

cheers

Thanks for the headsup on North to Sandy. Climbing isn't one of my stronger points.. LOL

The end of Warrimoo on Google, appears to have a walking track to the creek, but the spinx side of the creek looks too steep. Would definately be worth checking out though.

Not sure when I'm going to do it, I was hoping to do it last weekend, but time got the better of me. But maybe the weekend after next. I'll have to see how work goes. I'll be sure to post up in here when I'm going to do it.

a WALKING TRACK which means no bikes. Besides its very steep.

Sphinx Fire trail doesn't go to the water and the Sphinx walking track is, um a walking track so again, no bikes.

when you come out Philip Rd trun left on to Warrimoo, turn right onto Wanganella, right onto Waipori and the left into Kapiti. at the end of Kapiti turn right into the fire trail and head down into the valley. Get to a junction with about three or four trails, cross them and head down across the causeway and then up, up, up coming out at Glengarry Ave. Turn right onto Bobbin head. from here you can go into the NP and ride both the Sphinx and the other trail that heads down to the marina (sorry name escapes me and I'm not sure if you are allowed all the way to the water)

If you want more hills then turn left off Bobbin Hd Rd at the round about into Curragul. From here take either Gwydir or Stonecroft. Both will lead to the same fire trail that takes you all the way over to Grosvenor St at Wahronga but if you do this be prepared for some hills.

Are they walking tracks are they???

Oh, I was just going off the trail google maps I got from this forum. I presumed that because they were highlighted they were OK for riding on... My bad.

Gwydir ave is where my mum lives, she's actually right next to the trail entrance. This was going to be my end point. Somewhere I can leave the car to drive home. LOL

At the end of warrimoo Rd / Ave is a fire trail which I refer to as Warimoo. Its not very long, only a couple of k, gets a little steep as it gets towards the lookout which makes for a nice climb back out. At the lookout, ie at the end of "Warrimoo fire trail" there is a walking track that drops to the water and then eventually the marina.

You can ride the fire trail section but not the walking section
