Maintenance Seminar - anyone want to come??

Hi,
After the crap weather we've all been subjecting our bikes to there has been a bit of chat about servicing and maintaining the bike. A few people suggested maintenance seminars and I know Bike Addiction in Manly will do one on demand if there are at least two people. I've also checked out Renegade's site and the link on their maintenance seminar is below.

http://www.renegadecycles.com.au/seminars.html

Renegade costs $99 for three hours with dinner thrown in and at the end of the night you will have learnt how to and serviced your bike. BA is the same deal but starts at $110 for two and reduces in price with more people. Considering that servicing the bike costs upwards of $70 anyway, it's not a bad deal. Renegade does theirs on the third Thursday of the month (one on 17th May) and BA will do it on demand.

I know two people who are interested in addition to myself, anyone else who is keen let me know and I will get a quote from BA with the number of people interested and then we can go from there.

I went to one of these seminars at King of the Mountain in Neutral Bay with 2 of my mates. Just my personal opinion - 5 people would be enough. The reason is that you can get hands on experiance and you get to try more things. I feel that if too many people go then it will just get crowded and you will not be able to ask as many questions and ultimately learn as much.

Any way... Just my opinion,

will go back to homework now.

see you on the trails,

Tim

I'd be interested =) I don't know much about fixing a bike other than the bare basics =(

Hi Tanya,

I would be really interested in coming to one of these evenings, I try to do as much of my own maintenance as possible but it would be cool to be shown the correct way of doing things.

Either shop would be good as I have found them both to be very helpful.

Cheers
Bruce

I also dabble in the art of bike maintenace, but it's all info that I've pulled from the net using tools that I 'think' may be suitable so I'm definately keen. Very keen to find out what is possible (repair-wise) while out on the trail with just a tyre lever and a stick of gum...

I've been so keen for one of these -BA or Renegade would be good
The renegade info sounds good
Could even back this up with the advanced course
As you say, just servicing a bike is expensive
Let alone any repairs or overhauling and time without bike etc

too, since my mechanical abilities start and stop with changing a tube Smiling. I was watching people fixing their chains on Sunday and was crossing my fingers that I won't have to do it myself!
Even though Lee said I only need cable ties to fix anything Smiling.

Yep sounds like a good idea Tanya so im up for this but judging by the amount of interest you have already you may have to split this one into two groups or something

Hi folks,
Have spoken to both BA and Renegade. Here are the options:

BA: they don't regularly run group nights anymore, they do one on one, or two people at most. However, for us they will do a max of 5 people with two teachers: Brad (who I think is the manager - or could be the owner?) and Garret who is the workshop mechanic in charge. They will charge $120 per person for 3 hours from 7-10pm and throw in dinner. That's a good ratio for five people.

Renegade: Run a fixed Thurs night with max 8 people and 2 teachers, they also throw in dinner. It's $100. I asked if they would arrange a different night for us if we already had the group and they will on a Tues or Wed. 6.30-9.30.

My pref: is to go to BA because it's my local, I've heard good things about the maintenance nights they ran in the past, they recently serviced my bike and did a great job and I want them to get to know me. I can only do a Wednesday night at the moment and I propose 16th May (or 23rd if 16th is too soon for people).

If that doesn't suit some who expressed interest here, then Renegade are already running a maintenance seminar on 17th May that you could independently book into, or if there is enough interest in Renegade you could arrange a nobmob night on another Tues/Wed.

Post back your prefs. I'm happy to arrange the booking. Payment will be required in advance to secure the bookings, so those interested will need to make the payment direct to the shop (I ain't taking any financial responsibility!). Cheers,
Tanya

Hi Tanya,

BA on either the 16th or 23rd would be ok with me, just let me know who to speak to for payment.
If the group gets to big would be happy to organise another time.

Cheers
Bruce

Is good for me, Tanya
I'm happy with BA- nice researching
Lack of research has stopped me in the past
Just let me know what I need to do

Bruce, Andy, Dan: I'll just confirm with BA and provide you with the details to make payment. I'm not sure about the fifth, she hasn't gotten back to me yet, so if she's not in we'll see if there is now anyone else keen.

Hi Dan, Bruce and Andy,
BA have confirmed the booking. All you have to do is ring up Bike Addiction on 9938 3511 and ask for Brad to make payment. He asked for a list of the bikes you will be bringing so I told him what you have listed on your profiles, if that has changed let him know. The other thing he asked for is an idea of anything you want to get out of the evening apart from just your average maintenance. They have a plan of what they will run through which is basic service stuff but if there is anything else let me know and I will tell Brad to see if they can fit it in.

And YES - we have space for a fifth if you still want to come Shaun. Let me know.
Otherwise, see you there if not on the trails before hand.
