Single Track

Hey guys,

This is my first post.

I am a very keen Mountian Biker (I love nothing more than cleaning my beautiful green Gaint Downhill bike - I wish that I could have afforded a Cannondale but lets not get started on that as I will just get depressed and I want to keep my first post upbeat).

Anyway, I have all the latest gear and am fully equiped for the most radical terrain (helps when you have 8 inches of travel but only weigh about 50kgs) and now I just need to starte venturing beyond the Manly dam loop.

I heard from a guy I know (he calls himself Jedi Jungle Snow I think on this site) that there are some single tracks in Garrigal. Is this right?

Happy riding partners.

Dear Pottz,

I'm new too; have given away my old evil ways of touring with some panniers; looking to upgrade to a dually soon. They say Brad at Addiction is the guy to make arrangements with to get a trial bike..thinking a Reign model might do the job.

Who is this Jedijunglebunny anyway?

Cheers

The Pannicar

There are some single tracks in Garrigal mate, but you've ridden them all before me!! You would have probably referred to them as Cascades, but I know you've ridden them - when you did it was well before my time as a Cannondale rider, back when I just had a hard tail and rode the fire roads.

I think your getting confused when you say you wish to venture beyond the Dam. Manly Dam is just the one trail at the Dam, not the entire Northen Beaches where I've seen you ripping it up! Although if you are doing laps of the Dam on a dh bike then you must be pretty bloody fit!

And Mr Pannicar, you are right about Brad being the guy at BA. If you send a pm to Goatman he will give all the Brad - related advice that you'll need.

Crack Hardy!

If you've got big travel and wanna use it on the northern beaches mate you need to be on red hill or oxford falls depending on your preference to man made or natural terrain. I prefere the latter and find red hill a lot of fun but you have to know it pretty well to find the best bits.

...is being modest, he knows Red Hill like the back of his hand.

Gazza have you done the new DH track off the Moto X track yet? We went to do it on Sat but there was a massive bog (courtesy of the moto guys) stopping us getting to the start of it. Maybe next time.

There are some nice mixes of single trails (steep and rocky, or just easy) and fire trails in Cascades. The single trails are more memorable, and fun, to ride. Many of these single trails are difficult to find, if you do not have a guide. I had to be shown around when I got there, especially because all of the fire trails that connect these up look similar. It is easy to lose your bearings.

My suggestion would be to post a suggested ride at Cascades on a day not already taken. I am sure you will get someone to show you around.

Cheers,
Liam

For those not going down to Canberra. I'd be keen. Although I haven't been there before so I'd need some form of guide - any takers?

Pottz is being modest, but I'm thinking he is also a little confused. As I said earlier I think he believes riding Manly Dam encompasses the entire Nth Beaches. I think this is because he is known to do rides that take in The Dam, Oxford Falls, Deep Creek and Red Hill all in one go - and on a dh bike too! The guy is a freak!

He has ridden these spots and Cascades too, and knows them well, I've ridden behind him cursing my crappy rear shock many a time.

Hey,

Well, if this chap is a "little confused", then the ride review at http://nobmob.com/rides/cascades should be nothing new. Also check out the map of the area at http://nobmob.com/node/300. Does this look at all familiar? (note the map is upside down) Thanks for those Rob - very handy. Laughing out loud

There are plenty of single trails out there. There is the main Cascades Downhill trail marked as the Red line on this map. Plus I know of two or three others up near Acron Oval (closer to St Ives) that some others have shown me over the years. They are all good, especially if you are a decently experienced freerider! There are some great drop-offs and roll-offs in there. Plus some stuff I would never attempt.

Cheers,
Liam.

I have ridden the downhill track quite i few times at red hill. Dont like to make it public where it is though although a few of the drop offs would be impossible for cross country bikes. There is another way around the bog to get in though. Its a nice downhill although a pain in the ass pushing your bike back up. Thats why i normally do it in sections and work my way down doing the same few bits a couple of times. Been trying to get a few of the boys down there for a mess around but had no luck yet.

Gaz I think we need to go to Red Hill the weekend after Canberra, what do you think? Me want to play on my new bike!
