As you may be aware next Sunday is Clean Up Australia Day.

Nifty and I have been in touch about cleaning up some of the crap in the bush at Wallaroo and eventually he came across the East Seaham Clean Up Australia Day Group. We've been told that the NPWS ranger will be attending and there will be a skip at the end of Lone Pine Rd (which is one of the main roads through Wallaroo for those not familiar with the area).

I'm not totally sure of the intimate details of the plan (I think Nifty is out of town at the moment) but I think the general idea is to go for a ride and pick any litter on the way, then we'll get together and have a go at some of the more serious dumping site(s).

I've been slowly chipping away at it and have picked off most of the easy stuff so what's left is harder to access or more difficult to remove. I'll have my big van there so can cart loads of bagged or 'cleaner' stuff with no problem but my off road ability is pretty limited. So in particular it would be great if we could find a couple of blokes with some more serious hauling ability eg trailers, utes or 4x4's.

If anyone is interested in lending a hand either join the seaham group or get in touch with me at [email protected]

This is the link to the Seaham group:

Below is a map of potential sites I'd like to have a go at (the dumped cars are just there for reference). Pretty much everything should be accessible with a sensible 2WD. If anyone has some other spots they would like to work on just let me know.

Cheers, Tim

It looks some of the local mtb crew have prior commitments on Sun so rather than one (semi) organised group, people will probably be coming and going as time allows.

This means a group ride won't happen unless someone wants to organise it.

I'll be there from pretty early on, until either the skip is full or I run out of puff. I gather it's a pretty big skip so it may be the latter!

As Browny has indicated, some of us have prior commitments on the Sunday morning. I've been in touch with the bloke who is running the Clean Up Australia Day activity at East Seaham and the skip bin will be there for the rest of the day. Hence our group intends to do a clean-up effort on Sunday afternoon, from approximately 2pm.

We'll be meeting at the corner of Italia Rd and Lone Pine Rd and roughly following this loop anti-clockwise with our cars and trailers.

Got a heap of crap cleaned up and met some of the locals.

The van hard at work:

This was one of the spots I was super keen to clear - big pile of plasterboard:

The skip at the end. Unfortunately a few people decided it was a good opportunity for clean up their backyard day, hence we aquired a bunch of stuff, including a trailer.
