On Sunday June 24th 2012, the CareFlight Woodford to Glenbrook Classic will attract over 1000 entrants to run or ride the Oaks Fire Trail through the beautiful Blue Mountains National Park from the town of Woodford down to the Euroka Clearing near Glenbrook.

Covering 25km of undulating bushland, the trail is incredibly scenic and is a must for keen mountain bikers and trail runners. Participants are supported the full length of the track by Rural Fire Service crews stationed along the way, providing First Aid and drinks. A CareFlight doctor and St John Ambulance volunteers will also be in support.

The event will finish with a community fair-style reception in the beautiful Euroka Clearing. Families are welcome to join in the fun with activities for the kids, food stalls and displays throughout the day.

Mountain bike riders start from 9am and runners start from 10am. Exact start times as well as transport and parking details will be advised closer to the event.

Registration is just $45 for adults and $20 for juniors for entries received before 7.00 am Monday 11th June 2012. For entries received after 7.00 am on Monday June 11, 2012 the fee is $50 for adults and $20 for juniors. The registration fee only covers the cost of conducting the event. Additional money raised by entrants through donations and fundraising activities helps to fund the services of CareFlight. You can raise funds on your own or get together with your friends to form a fundraising team. A trophy will be presented for the highest individual fundraiser as well as for the highest fundraising team.

Teams and individuals are welcome to enter. Registrations will be taken until 4pm Monday 18 June 2012, or until the event reaches the maximum number of participants. No entries will be accepted on the day of the event. There is a limit of 650 cyclists, with no limit on runners.

I've not done this before, does it follow the usual Oaks track with the single track and rock garden at the end?

Lach's picture

you keep going out through the gate at the start of the sniggle, along the main firetrail to Bennets Ridge trail, then down it into a finish at Euroka. Sort of extends the usual downhill helipad to gate run for another 5km or so....

LadyToast's picture

Shame in a way that we miss the single and the rock garden but I guess they have to cater for everyone (perhaps the runners wouldn't enjoy the rocks drops as much as us either).

Lach's picture

they could run it down the single track to just near the old Ironbarks picnic area and then into Euroka by the old exit road. Probably have to do it just for the bikes though, because IIRC the fastest runners can catch the slower riders and mixing them on the single track would not be great.

OK, I'm going to come out of (family induced) retirement for this. It will be good to see a few BMORC faces again.

Andy Bloot's picture

If you're keen for an 'out of retirement ride' send me a msg
Not sure if I'm doing the CF this year
I think I'm officially over racing for the time being

moggio's picture

I'm out for this... I can't really take another day away from the family on the weekend.

trim's picture

Have a good ride guys...I can't make it...booked up on Sunday. I've made a donation to the legendary BMORC team for this year though!

BM Epic's picture

Have fun, we are out, family thing, missus does enough for them without donations!

ChopStiR's picture

Cheers for the Sponsorship Trim!

I recieved my Bib and Timing chip in the mail today!

hathill's picture

Yeah +1 for trim's donation.

I rode the trail last Sunday. It looks like NPWS has done a few repairs. They have used a fill with a fairly high clay content, making the track pretty slippery in sections. It was a day after a lot of rain though, and should dry out fine by race day.

Weather looks good. I'm riding in Wave E this year, will be wearing my BMORC jersey!

Disappointed I'm missing this one, but the Kowen 8hr has called...............
Have fun lads, weather looks perfect for a fast one.

Lach's picture

that everyone will be going flat out just to warm up.... Smiling

Muninjitsu's picture

How was the cold this morning, was -1 at glenbrook at 7 am.

Chuck's picture

It wasn't to cold at all, in fact it was much warmer than our night rides.

stephen's picture

Chuck you missed the under 1 hr mark by just seconds. Seeing though it wasn't cold, If you didn't sport that big jumper you might have cracked the hour.

Chuck's picture

Really stoked with my time this year considering my lead up preparation.

Did 01:00:13 this year. Only 26 seconds slower than last year.

@ Stephen. Plus I wear baggies unlike a lot of you guys in Lycra. I was on my own 95% of the time, which was good as there was no one to talk to. Bit like my week days rides to the helipad.

Results here.

Mike we can't all be Mamil's! Middle aged men in Lycra.

Muninjitsu's picture

The 60+ guys were quicker than most of the field, impressive.

Chuck's picture

Sure Char, I'm happy for you. Smiling

My mate Dennis down road did great again and won the 60+ age group.

waratah's picture

I got nowhere near my PB, but had a great ride. Nice to catch up with some BMORC'ers too!

stephen's picture

The BMORC fundraising team have made a decent contribution to Careflight this year. We are only $15 (just checked again it's now a $65 gap) off 1st place team and 4th overall.

It's not to late for anyone that has not thrown in a few bucks!

A BIG congratulations to Noel for another great year fundraising, over $5000 and he posted a great time considering his elaborate costume.

Second time at this one but still didnt improve on last years result. From the gun the two eventual winners lit it up and I was caught napping with my chain in the little ring. This meant I got onto the trail proper in 7th wheel.

I overtook a few but in my attempt to bridge the increasing gap to the two leaders i picked up a stick in my rear derailleur. This slowed me to a crawl and by the time i got going again the gap was too large to bridge. The two leaders looked as though they were riding strong and were working well together. Catching that was going to be near impossible especially with only a few hills left.

So i chugged along with two others to the end and managed to drop them on the second last bend to take out third.

This is such an awesome blast of a race. Ill be back next year for sure.

hathill's picture

Should have done more training for this one! 5 minutes slower than last year. Still a great day out (if a little chilly esp as I rode down from Wenty to the start).
Good effort on the fundraising - That's our PB to beat for next year.
Sorry I didn't catch up with you Tim - Starting in the pretenders class means no time for chit chat Eye-wink

Chuck's picture

Outright Pretenders we were Mr Hathill. But to the untrained eye, we are now MTB Elites. Smiling
