OMV Bike Festival Wrap-up

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

From Campbell King, president of SNORC.

Thought I'd share to show others what a difference the support each person gives whether it be by volunteering, participating and just general encouragement:

"Hi xxxxxxxx
Well the inaugural Old Man's Valley Bike Festival was a screaming success. Check out the snorc Facebook page for more pics or snorc.org.au for the results.

Convict 100 2015 to be run in reverse

I think it was rumoured last year but it's now official.

Still my 1 and only 100km race... It left me a little bit scarred. I decided that the 50km races were more my style...

I'm sure the regular 100km Convict riders will have a bit to say about the reverse route???

New WADA Prohibited List 2015

Clicking thru one of the links in today's MTBA newsletter i found that the 2015 banned substances list has been uodated.

Interestingly, and contrary to my earlier belief, pseudoephedrine (aka cold tablets) had not been on the list. However that changes for next year.

From 1 January athletes must cease use of it at least 24 hours prior to competition.

Lots of other "interesting" products come onto the list next year as well... a bit of an eye opener.

Husky 100km

Hi Anyone done the Husky 100 on a SS? I'm thinking about giving it a go and was wondering what the best gear ratios would be?

Highland Fling (Half) - equipment list

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I am entering my first mountain bike event, the half fling and have a couple of simple questions.

I generally do a lot of road riding so my fitness is about right, and I ride trails, approximately once a month. So I certainly wont be the most technical out there, but should have decent fitness to carry me through.

With this being my first event, I'll be riding an aluminium, hard-tail 29er.

The most disappointing thing about Jason English's win...

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The most disappointing thing about Jason English's 5th 24 hour world champs win was reading his post-race writeup. In it he writes that he finished work on the Thursday before the race and arrived at the race site on the Friday at 5pm, without having time to even do a lap of the course. Afterwards, following his win, he could hardly get through the presentation without having to dash to the airport to fly home so that he could get back to work on the following Tuesday.

Jason English does it again...

Is it me, or did English crossing the line with 25 minutes left to race mean it's impossible for him to be caught? The man's a machine!

* P2 would have to ride a 42 minute lap to be able to go out and even attempt to catch. Simply not going to happen.

High calibre elite

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

As I was finishing the last few kms of the Kowalski 100 yesterday (towards the back of the pack - hours after the elites finished!) I thought to myself - how cool would it be to be cheered home by the elites?

I crossed the finish line, feeling sore but satisfied in my achievement. I looked up, and saw none other than the great Brett Bellchambers standing there cheering home the backmarkers. I've seen Brett cheering on riders in other races around Canberra as well - even when he's not participating.
