Rainy Weekend?

What are the chances of getting out this weekend? Sad

After reading Loz's account of the trails last night even if it stops now I can't see things drying out any time soon. Waaaaaaaaaaa!

Perhaps it's just a weekend for staying up all night, enjoying the sport on TV and sleeping in? Eye-wink

Go ride on the road Rob....just like you did last week Smiling

Actually - I rode on the dirt last week, with Pratiwi. You really should be a better cyber stalker Sticking out tongue

I'm up for a long ride this weekend for sure. If there is nowhere dry it will have to be road.

Hmmm.. Anyone know what Ourimbah or Appin are like at the moment?

If I ride this weekend I’ll probably head down to Appin. The track seems to drain really well and I believe they generally get’s less rain due to there inland location?

If any one heads down there tomorrow would they mind posting an update on the track condition?

LadyToast's picture

Only problem with Appin is there aren't enough hills. Not really at Ourimbah either.. what else is going to be dry but have lots of hills?

Tricky..

if its been peeing down on sat i'll do a hilly road ride on sunday around my area on the mtb. I know its on the road but there's some good hills and i dont allow myself to use the granny gear. I mentioned it before with a little interest from others so if anyone fancies it let me know.

There's a night race on Saturday so hope it's dry come on up for a fun challange

LadyToast's picture

Night race! Is the with the CCOMTB? Keen on that.

Yeah I'm keen to head up there on Sunday. Have no idea how well it drains though. I'm guessing The Graveyard would get the worst.

Anyone got any experience of riding up there after rain?

Generally it drains pretty well. The clay bits are pretty nasty in the rain but on the whole it's ok as long as it hasn't been bucketing down.

Good to know it drains well.

Ourimbah here I come...

I have spent way too much money on fixing my bike after really wet rides and can't really justify doing too often.

It may be out of theme with the site, but I though maybe we could post a road ride. I was thinking about St Ives out to Church Point and Akuna Bay. Will this get torn down if I post it.

It would be fun to see the hurls of abuse.

don't worry - this is why it's wet

Given the 12 hour is out there in 4 weeks, I'd like to have a ride out there soon and get re-familiarised with the track. It's been a while! If not his weekend definitely in the next couple of weeks.
I've heard it is fairly sheltered from the weather and drains well too. Anyone been out there recently?

Option 2 is to do a decent road ride.
One of my favorites is to ride up to Palm beach, take the 9am ferry to Ettalong (~30 minutes $12), on to WoyWoy, then ride back down the old pacific hwy through Mooney, Mt White, Brooklyn to Hornsby. It's about 100km loop if you ride along MonaVale Rd and McCarrs Creek. 120km round trip from Chatswood.

Just thought I'd mention my experience with Ourimbah 3 Sundays ago - Ourimbah does NOT drain that well. We were trying to escape the wet weather around the Beaches, and it was an absolute shocker.

While it hadn't rained there that morning there were puddles everywhere, right in the middle of the trail, making them nearly impossible to avoid. Our bikes were covered in filth and the sounds coming out of the drivetrain gave me flashbacks to the Sydney 24hr. This was all over the course too - not just in the Graveyard.

Maybe it drains well after only a little bit of rain, but not so well after a good drenching.

philberesford's picture

It looks like it hasn't received as much rain as most places (ie the Dam) http://nobmob.com/weather but then I guess this isn't exactly accurate either and should only be used as a guide.

i live 10 mins from ourimbah track, rode there on tuesday afternoon & the track wasn't too bad at all just the odd puddle even graveyard was dry, but over the last 2 nights we have had a considerable amount of rain, i was going to ride again today but i think the track will be too wet, should be good by the weekend if we don't get too much more rain.

Thanks for the heads up John, I guess we'll just have to keep watching the skies and the rainfall charts

Weekend not looking so rainy anymore http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN10064.shtml

Fingers crossed the forecast is right

Here's a good site:

NSW Weekly Rainfall totals http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN600...

Springwood has only had 4mm in 7 days, so any of the Blue Mts rides should be fine

BT's picture

How's it been up at Ourimbah the last couple of days?

Thinking of heading up there tomorrow morning.

bluray's picture

have had some very heavy downpours today i would imagine the track to be fairly wet, that being said though it should dry out reasonably quick providing it stays dry on saturday as predicted, although the night race on saturday night may do some damage.
