Good Afternoon Mountain Bikers,

Thanks to some warm sunny days this week, the track has been drying out fairly well, and we are pleased to advise that we will re-open the bike track late this afternoon (after 4pm) to enable weekend riding.

Kind regards,
Manly Dam Rangers

I'm not adding a new status as Phil's is an official Manly Dam Ranger update.

I rode the Dam today because of the orange status but it really should have been left alon. There is heaps of water and the firetrail sections are being torn up. Someone has been through there in a 4x4 and made huge ruts in the puddles.

If you can stay away and ride elsewhere until it is ready to ride

I thought The Rangers were a bit keen re-opening so soon after the worse rain in 50 years last week. Think we should all exercise common sense and stay away. FWIW Oaks and Ando's today was dry dry dry. Status update to come.

Rode the dam this morning, not to bad if you know how to avoid the fireroad section. If you don't, probably should stay away.

Totally agree guys, it's a red IMO. LOTS of folk out there though...

I did get a chance to see some of the new track mods though. My line at 19th hole is sort of an out and back now, I still like the B line but the lovely stone work spits me out on the C line.

Rode the dam for a few hours during the middle of the day today. The lead into 19th Hole has suffered noticeable erosion. Maybe it was me travelling slowly behind my young bloke, where I normally gun it to huck off the drops, but the middle section drops and landing zones seemed much rougher than usual.

*Lots* of sand all over the rocks at 19th Hole, which made it slippery and trickier than normal. Someone seems to have built a little ramp with a log and soem rocks at the final roll-down which on teh second attempt felt quite solid... hopefully it stays in place.

The rock corral placement at Cootamundra Drive seems to have worked well, although still a slushfest at the lowest point.

The Allambie downhill showed evidence of water flow erosion, and the section down-trail from the Hydraulics Lab rocks was in pretty poor condition. Lots of scope for volunteer trail maintenance there. Sad

Most of the western side of the loop looked OK: golf course singletrack and the trig track were quite good, and the landing zones at the bottom of the two techy chute descents was in excellent condition, thanks to the contractor's recent trail works.

Overall? Hmmm... it really wasn't much fun today, and the wet conditions made some of the rocky sections a bit treacherous to negotiate with your tyres all clogged up with sand. Have to say it seems to me the rangers are under pressure from higher up the food chain to keep the trail open and while the western side was pretty good, with the condition of the Allambie side it really should have been a red.

Saw a dad with his son at the Creek when Black Flash and i went thru 3ish?? - Dad was walking back to son having a prob in the creek? Anyway the dam has morphed again - I hadn't been around for a while and surprised how it had changed and how i had to pick a line again - I liked it today as it was technical - you had to concentrate on the downhill or else, up heartbreak and most of the way around - hopefully when it dries they leave it as it reminded me of the track some years ago. I was fortunate sitting behind someone who was on their second lap and was pointing out the changed bits - take it easy if you haven't been around in a while - there are some eye openers
Anyway in a few days it will be dry and good to go - the only real bad spot was top of the hill near the primary school - a boggy muddy mess - the rest was ok'ish I have seen it worse especially around the 19th and the playground - which was dry.
A couple of days beaudiful!!

My young bloke is getting quite big... the kermit green Jekyll that I used to be famous for he's now riding these days. Smiling Was a good excuse for a new bike Eye-wink

Yes, the Dam's been doing that morphing thing a lot this year, I always take it easy on the first lap and treat it as a sighting-in lap.

Hopefully the rain will stay away this week.

I went for a walk on the fire trail yesterday and agree with the comments - give it a few more days to dry out. The ruts left by the 4WD were by the guys who were re-lining the drains (some people refer to them as the speed humps). They move water off the trail. I think the ruts are a small price to pay for better drainage on the medium term. Let's see...

Since there hasn't been an update for a few days, here's my bit.
I rode the Dam yesterday at about midday and other than the permanent wet patch on the rocks near Allambie and 1 or 2 puddles it was pretty good. I wouldn't give a green yet but its definitely ridable without too mutch cleaning to do afterwards.
Hope this helps Laughing out loud
