Amber/Some Issues

I just did a spin around Manly Dam and was surprised at how much it has dried out.

Really, for anyone who knows the track I would call it "green" - it will certainly be green if this current drought continues and dries up the mud field which was the quagmire.

But for newbies and those less familiar with the track I think there are still a few issues with seepage in a some places and lots of loose/eroded stones, so I'll keep the traffic light on "amber".

Also FWIW somebody (on Saturday) has dumbed down Hawkeye's Bugbear in a way which forces you to use a more exact line - personally I think this could be less safe than before.

Do you have more information?

If you've ridden here lately please add a more recent report. This will be useful even if the condition is the same as updates expire after 30 days.

LOL!

Not so much an issue for me*, it's more the number of newbies that come to grief and need to be stretchered out.

*recent stupidity on line choice caught on camera excepted Sticking out tongue

I have managed a pre dawn lap very morning this week - thanks to this great dry weather! the track is so much drier every single day. Compared to what we have had, its pretty good now
I guess the dumbed down section you refer to as Hawkeyes Bugbear was the A-line vertical drop in the single track before the playground. That was the best fun on the whole circuit and have really been missing it.
I understand that few may have come to grief on this drop but i really resent the continual dumbing-down of the circuit. Please keep some challenge in the track or we will all die of boredom!

Here it is in a action...

Hawkeye's Bugbear (sorry, mental incapacity is preventing me from embedding the image)

Of course, if you try to brake as you go down this steep little drop you *will* go over the bars.
And certainly you have to learn about that by enjoying the experience - typically early on in your riding career.

Yes there are lots of newbies riding Manly Dam because there is no where else (legal) for them to learn.
So inevitably some of them will crash. At this obstacle.
Some will be hurt.
But all of them will learn not to brake going down steep little drops.

99.9% of riders don't crash here (maybe 95% on weekends) because they have already learned how to ride such obstacles.

So dumbing it down for a few means there is less fun for the majority *as well as* fewer learning experiences for the newbies - who, if they don't learn here will inevitably make the mistake somewhere else, with the same result.

Just my 2 cents' Smiling

OOhhhh that looks interesting (and painful). Is that a C collar? Hope no damage
Did he take the straight ahead A line over the first vertical drop and then go straight over the bars on to the ledge, or did he keep going over the next ledge off the big drop in to the bush? (worst case scenario).

By the way, thanks to the track builders, nice stone work! The new stone work should ensure everyone follows the new line and the track should remain quagmire resistant. I am just sad for the loss of old classic (if treacherous) A-line.

Great to hear its dry, sucks to hear the weather reports for the next few days

Does anyone have any pics of this new work?

Got in this morning before the rain.
I love the big rock someone placed for the roll off at the 19th Hole. Also some Track fairys have been fixing some small bits here & there. I hope it doesnt rain too much today.

Yea I'd agree with cambowambo but who knows how much it will rain today.

Yep, it was a spinal collar. He couldn't feel his hands so they took precautions. Turned out there was no damage, which was good news.

He'd managed to knock himself out, and I arrived while all this was going on, so I don't know what his line choice was and he doesn't remember much. It was his first time around the track apparently.
